Why did you decide to pursue the CCMP?
The CCMP is a demonstration of professional, personal commitment to leading change effectively. Change isn’t easy! But with good change management, change can focus on the human side of change, and all stakeholders can feel the benefits of it.
I’ve been blessed in my career to have lead changes for over twenty years – I saw this as an opportunity to crystallize that leadership into a tangible commitment.
I also saw the CCMP as a strong complement to my background as a continuous improvement professional, with my designation as a Lean Six Sigma Master Black Belt. I strongly encourage other CI professionals to consider obtaining the CCMP to bring the human side to the improvements they are leading.
How did you prepare for the CCMP?
I studied! I read and re-read the Standard, and using a tip from the ACMP website, I made my own set of hand-written flash cards! The deck was 2 inches thick, and anytime I had a free moment, I pulled out a flash card and tested myself. It was a great way to ensure I had the vocabulary, concepts, and processes in the Standard available at my fingertips.
I proactively joined my local chapter to access materials and advice they had before pursuing the designation. I devoured any training, webinars, and other content to give me the fullest context, and also completed online change management training through Acuity. I appreciated their online format and alignment with the concepts in the Standard to help me prepare.
How has earning the CCMP benefited you personally and professionally?
Personally, I’ve benefited from the satisfaction of knowing I could pursue and obtain a significant designation like the CCMP, including passing the exam! It’s broadened and deepened my knowledge of change management, expanded my network into the wonderful world of change management experts and consultants across the GTA and around the world, and helped me feel connected with other people that are as passionate about change as I am!
It’s been a great personal learning about other disciplines that value and live into change – human resources, communications, project managers, counselors and advisors – and that has opened my mind about bringing those disciplines and skill sets into the work I’m humbled to lead.
I’ve also personally grown from being a mentor in the Toronto chapter’s pilot mentoring program, both from working with my mentee, and from other mentors and mentees. (I’m excited they are offering it again in 2019!)
